Bike Lessons

Never too late to learn.

Whether your kid is taking off the training wheels or you're an adult who just never had the chance — we've taught hundreds of riders, no judgment, at your pace.

Who It's For

Two wheels, any age.

Kids

First-time riders, balance bike grads, or kids who got scared off by a bad fall and need to rebuild confidence.

  • Ages roughly 4 and up — call if you're not sure
  • Helmet provided
  • Parents welcome to stay and watch
  • Pace varies — we go as long as it takes

Adults

Never learned as a kid? Want to commute or join a friend on a Citi Bike ride? You're in good company — we teach adults all the time.

  • Zero judgment — really. We've heard every reason.
  • Method that works: balance first, pedaling second
  • Quiet, low-traffic spots — no embarrassment
  • Pace varies per rider — we go at yours, no pressure

Our Method

Balance before pedals.

Counter-intuitive, but it works. Pedals are the easy part — getting comfortable on two wheels is what hangs people up.

01

Push & balance

First we have you walk the bike, then push off and glide with feet up — no pedaling yet. Just getting your body used to balancing on two wheels.

02

Pedaling, with backup

Once balance clicks, you start pedaling — and we run alongside, hand on the seat, so you can't fall while you're learning.

03

On your own

When you're ready, we let go. By then it's just riding — and you tell us when you feel solo-ready.

FAQ

Honest answers.

How long is a lesson? +
Usually 30-40 minutes. Long enough to make real progress, short enough not to wear anyone out (especially kids).
Do I need my own bike? +
If you have one in the right size, bring it. If not, we have bikes you can use during the lesson — just let us know height/age when you call.
How many lessons until I can ride? +
Usually a few sessions — but it varies per rider. We accommodate to your pace and don't push. You tell us when you feel ready to be on your own.
Where do lessons happen? +
Right outside the shop on Emmons Ave — wide, calm, low traffic. No audience, no pressure.
What does it cost? +
Call for current rates — we keep it accessible because we want more people on bikes, not fewer. Bundle pricing if you book a few sessions up front.
